Beside the cathartic side, reunions are reasons for touching base once in awhile and regaining a sense of reality thorough the contact with what we used to be. To forget is only human, but the process of transformation from an adolescent to an adult is about building on a solid base and becoming aware of what you are and who you want to become. Success is not always smiling upon us and failure should make us become tougher and better prepared for future trials. After all, we have survived our toughest years: puberty. There is nothing more frightful for someone but to have to relive his or her puberty years all over again. Reunions help you laugh at yourself and at your fears and adolescence nightmares like not having the right leather jacket or the coolest hair.

One example is a former classmate who used to be the center of our group's jokes (I was lucky enough to be in a group of cool kids). Later, when we went to a restaurant, tongues became loose (maybe the good wine had also something to do with it) and it turned out that she felt this reunion was like an earthquake of the past (as so well described it one of my friends and former classmates). We felt the replicas of this earthquake when she started to tell us how much she hated us and how glad she was that some of us had such unattractive girlfriends or wives! There is another reason why reunions are hilarious. Some people just can't get over it!
All in all, reunions are a great source of fun and nothing can be more relaxing than relieving old times with old buddies once you have passed over the nostalgia of knowing you are getting older with every year that passes and brings you further away from those times.
